Are We All Really ‘Slaves’, as Some on the Left (and Right), Claim?

A Facebook friend claimed we are all just slaves:

The truly amazing thing about America is that its workers have been persuaded that they really want to build the pyramids. Slaves who believe they are free are so much easier to control.

Another mocked the notion that Americans are adequately fed, paid and housed.  To top it all off, he claimed we lack sufficient leisure time!

As for myself, I work a lot (perhaps 50 hours a week), because I have a large family to support and commitments to others. But I enjoy leisure time as well, frequently after 6pm, usually on Saturdays, and always on Sundays.  My list of leisure activities-and between my work, teaching children, domestic duties, prayer and Church activities is not really very extensive-includes books, music, television, internet, radio, newspaper, a fully-equipped gymnasium, public greenways, libraries, parks, tennis…the list of leisure activities that are low cost or free is almost exhausting.

This daily leisure time-adding up to nearly as many hours as I work in a week-puts me in the category with Kings, doesn’t it?

And, if I (really here I am talking about the ‘we’ of the first world), didn’t want multiple cars, multiple smart phones, cable, dinner out and the long list of other luxuries even the poor among us enjoy (if you doubt that the poor enjoy multiple cars, smart phones and cable, spend more time in the ER, or at prison waiting rooms, or at WalMart, or around public housing), well, if … Read the rest

Why the Dems Won the House in 2018

In just one week, Trump guaranteed the Democrats will retake the House of Representatives in 2018, which means it is all but certain Trump will be impeached in 2019.

How did this happen?

  1.  Trump betrayed fiscal conservatives by passing a budget Hillary Clinton would have boasted about.
  2. Trump betrayed social conservatives by using taxpayer funds to pay for abortions at Planned Parenthood.
  3. Trump funded sanctuary cities and their racist, violent sedition.
  4. Trump funded foreign corporate welfare a la the Ex-Im Bank.
  5. Trump saddled taxpayers with billions to fund his wall, rather than getting the Mexicans to pay for it, as he had promised.

Plus Trump fired his already-bad National Security Adviser this week and replaced him with an even-worse pro-war neo-con.

The Democrats will win the House in November, but Republicans will hold the Senate and Trump is still likely to win reelection in 2020, so long as:

  1.  He doesn’t start any wars
  2. Unemployment remains at record lows
  3. He appoints Scalia types to SCOTUS, and
  4. The stock market continues to grow at 12% a year or more.

Measuring the Success of the War on Men

From Tucker Carlson, who explains just how far the war on men has gone and how successful it has been:

You hear a lot in America about the “war on women,” but it’s men in America who are failing. We have some shocking statistics:

The signs are everywhere. If you’re a middle aged man, you probably know a peer who has killed himself in recent years. At least one. If you’re a parent, you may have noticed that your daughter’s friends seem a little more on the ball than your son’s. They get better grades. They smoke less weed. They go to more prestigious colleges. If you’re an employer, you may have noticed that your female employees show up on time, whereas the young men often don’t. And of course if you live in this country, you’ve just seen a horrifying series of mass shootings, far more than we’ve ever had. Women didn’t do that. In every case, the shooter was a man.

Something ominous is happening to men in America. Everyone who pays attention knows that. What’s odd is how rarely you hear it publicly acknowledged. Our leaders pledge to create more opportunities for women and girls, whom they imply are failing. Men don’t need help. They’re the patriarchy. They’re fine. More than fine.

But are they fine? Here are the numbers:

A Question About the Lenten Fast

Suppose a person had given up BOURBON for Lent, and after many long, hard, painful days of fasting desired a WHISKEY. Would this constitute breaking the fast?

A certain person who is NOT a bourbon OR whiskey drinker thinks so, going so far as to say such extreme things as “that’s cheating”, while another person who is on intimate terms with both says ‘no, it is a totally different thing’, given that the principle of non-contradiction tells us that a thing cannot ‘be’ and ‘not be’ at the same time, and while it could be argued that bourbon is (Kentucky) whiskey, whiskey is definitely not bourbon.
