Deliverance Prayers for the Laity

Posted on March 20, 2024March 20, 2024 by Jeff Cassman

Father Ripperger has created concern in some traditional circles over his Deliverance Prayers for the Laity.

These such prayers are often said to be protestant in origin.  However, Catholics have usually referred to them as prayers of ‘adjuration’.

St. Anthony is well known as the patron of lost items, but he also has a great prayer of ‘deliverance’, which Pope Sixtus V had inscribed on the obelisk in Saint Peter’s Square.

In the original Latin, the prayer says:

Ecce Crucem Domini!
Fugite partes adversae!
Vicit Leo de tribu Juda,
Radix David! Alleluia!
And translated, it reads
Behold, the Cross of the Lord!
Begone, all evil powers!
The Lion of the tribe of Judah,
The Root of David, has conquered!
Alleluia, Alleluia!

Here’s what the Saint Alphonsus Ligouri, the greatest Moral Theologian in Church history and a Doctor of the Faith, said about them (translation by Ryan Grant):

IV. Privately it is lawful for anyone to adjure [bind] a demon; but solemnly only for the ministers of the Church constituted for this purpose, and with the express license of the Bishop. (The Salamancans, ibid. n. 5, in common with others, from Luke 10:19: “Behold, I have given you power to tread over serpents and scorpions, and over every power of the enemy.” And from Mark 16:17: “In my name they will cast out demons.”)
V. Moreover, especially in regard to the adjuration of demons, two things must especially be noted here: 1) That with them the adjuration is

A Plea for Unity

Posted on October 29, 2023 by Jeff Cassman

O Lord Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your divine grace and mercy for our great nation. As Your faithful disciples, we earnestly pray that You soften the hearts of our Protestant brothers and sisters, allowing them to be receptive to Your boundless love and mercy.

May Your Holy Spirit shine a radiant light upon their minds, illuminating the truth of Your universal sovereignty as Christ the King. Let this revelation unite us, bridging our differences, so that together, as one Christian family, we may acknowledge You as the rightful King of the United States.

We fervently beseech You to consecrate our country, its leaders, and its people to Your Sacred Heart. Guide our government with the principles of justice, righteousness, and love, ensuring that Your will prevails in every corner of our land.

Bestow upon us the grace to serve Your kingdom with unwavering dedication, so that our nation stands as a testament to Your glory, radiating hope, love, and faith to all corners of the earth. In Your majestic name, we place our trust, pledging our unwavering loyalty and devotion to Your Sacred Heart. Amen.

Proof of Lefebvre’s Sanctity?

Posted on August 4, 2023 by Jeff Cassman

I have heard of two miracles thus far associated with Marcel Lefebvre; the first is the healing of a European boy with a cleft palette who was healed when he kissed the coffin of the Archbishop, and the second was an American baby who doctors presumed was dead in utero after no heartbeat was found and was to be removed by D&C, only to have a heartbeat discovered minutest before the procedure (the parents had prayed to the Archbishop for a miracle).

Communio in Sacris

PRAYER WITH NON-CATHOLICS FORBIDDEN

So, Venerable Brethren, it is clear why this Apostolic See has never allowed its subjects to take part in the assemblies of non-Catholics: for the union of Christians can only be promoted by promoting the return to the one true Church of Christ of those. MORTALIUM ANIMOS ENCYCLICAL OF POPE PIUS XI
ON RELIGIOUS UNITY

Are heretics and schismatics excommunicated? Yes; they have no part in the Communion of the Saints. Catechism of the Summa

If any ecclesiastic or layman shall go into the synagogue of the Jews or to the meeting-houses of the heretics to join in prayer with them, let them be deposed and deprived of communion. If any bishop or priest or deacon shall join in prayer with heretics, let him be suspended from communion. II Council of Constantinople

That Christians and ecclesiastics should pray for Christian unity under the direction of heretics and, what is worse, according to an intention which is radically impregnated and vitiated with heresy, is absolutely impossible to tolerate! Ven. Pope Pius XI

One must neither pray nor sing psalms with heretics, and whoever shall communicate with those who are cut off from the communion of the Church, whether clergy or layman: let him be excommunicated. Council of Carthage

No one shall pray in common with heretics and schismatics. Council of Laodicea

Since you are not of my religion, I ought not to join in prayer with you; but I will pray heartily for you: that God would … Read the rest
